Tristan Workman

Tristan Workman, a Carbondale native, works in the SBDC office and Small Business Incubator helping people start and grow their businesses, and is President of Saluki Entrepeneur Corps.  At the age of 21 Tristan set college aside to co-own and operate a small consumer electronic repair store in Columbia, MO., while also working on the side freelancing as a digital marketing consultant. He has since returned to SIUC, where he is studying marketing and will graduate in December.

The Editing:

Nathan Beck, a native of Seattle, Washington, is an author and screenwriter whose short fiction has appeared in Bricolage, Happy, and The Daily.  He is currently under contract to adapt Charles Coleman’s Sergeant Back Again into a feature-length screenplay.

From 1999 to 2004 Beck worked as a private tutor, substitute teacher, and homeschooling assistant in the Seattle area.  Following his graduation with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing in 2007, he taught composition and screenwriting as a professor of English and Film Studies at his alma mater, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he also served as Assistant Director of the Writing Center.

Now residing in Snohomish, Washington, Beck is a professor of Media and American Culture at the University of Phoenix and a writing consultant for clients ranging from private individuals to international corporations.  In addition to consulting on Saluki Marooned, he is currently at work on a novel of his own.  Nathan's link:

The Marketing-2011:

Mary Mechler is an Entrepreneurship Counselor for the Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIU in Carbondale, IL. She is President of SIETC Solutions, Inc., an internet based e-commerce company, formed in 2009. Previously, she was the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at SchoolCenter in Carbondale from 2006-2009.

Mary worked for The Southern Illinoisan Newspaper from 1986 to 2006, holding various positions, including Advertising Manager, Direct Marketing Manager, and Human Resources Manager. Ms. Mechler is the past president of the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce, board member of Carbondale Community Arts, Varsity Center for the Arts Board, and past president and board member of the Carbondale Convention & Tourism Bureau.

She is also a member of the SIU College of Business External Advisory Board for the Marketing Department.  SIU Small Business Development Center link:

Taylor Reed was raised in Rosiclare, Illinois where he attended Hardin County K-12. After high school he attended Southeastern Illinois College where he received Associates degrees in Computer Network Administration and Computer Information Systems.

He then transferred to Southern Illinois University Carbondale and completed his Bachelors degree in Information Systems Technology in 2009. Upon graduating he began working as an Information Specialist for a non-profit organization in Carterville, Illinois and has worked there for two years.

When not at work, Taylor spends much of his free time pursuing his hobby, landscape photography. He specializes in the Shawnee National Forest and state parks of Southern Illinois and has expanded his work to include the Ozark and Appalachian mountains. His photos have won numerous awards, been included in local and national fine art exhibits, and can be found in local and national publications.
